Heddels explains Polyamide (PA)

Polyamide, or nylon, is a synthetic fiber created from chains of polymers. Once spun, it can be stretched three to four times its original length to create long, even fibers.

The material was used in parachutes, tents, and tires during World War II; however, later it became popular for stockings and lingerie.
