Microsanding
What does Microsanding mean?
In this fabric treatment process, a series of cylindrical are arranged and roll in a horizontal arrangement. They are wrapped in either abrasive paper or a chemically coated surface (that acts as abrasion agent).
The denim is pulled over the face of the sand rollers creating a raised surface finishinig. Some colour reduction is experienced.
Heddels explains Microsanding
Microsanding can be used on any type of fabric; however, it is especially useful on cheaper fabrics because of its ability to simulate the softer textures of more expensive material.
Some pre-distressed or pre-washed denim undergoes microsanding, while raw denim does not.
