Flax

What does Flax mean?

Primarily comprised of cellulose processed from the stems of the flax plant, flax is a natural vegetable fibre. The flax plant yields long fine fibres that can be from 2″- 36″ in length and the color can range from light ivory to dark tan or grey.

Heddels explains Flax

Flax is grown for both its nutritional and textile qualities. Considered a “super food” by some, flax seeds contain high levels of fiber, vitamin B, and magnesium. Flax fiber is considered to be one of the oldest fibers in the world. The best, finest grades of flax are used for linen, while the poorer, coarser grades are used for rope and twine.

While linen is an expensive fabric due to its lengthy manufacturing process, it is highly valued for its lightweight, cool, and fresh properties in warmer climates.
