Denim Bruin 2015 Recap

Denimheads descended upon denim’s hometown of San Francisco this past weekend for three days of booze, boots, and blues. It marked the fourth annual Denim Bruin event hosted by the family that is Denimbro. Held across three locations including ReliquaryAB Fits, and Standard & Strange, the event is much less of a trade show and more of a weekend-long hangout amongst friends.

Don’t get us wrong, though. There was plenty to see and some goodies specific for the event.

Amongst the whisky and whiskers, leather goods seem to have played a larger role this year than in previous years with brands like Hollows LeatherSam Roberts LA, and Griffing Ave showcasing their wares.

Denim Bruin 2015 Lookbook

Leading up to Denim Bruin, Mark Randal of Denim Bro shot and published a lookbook to whet everyone’s appetite prior to the event. The first two photos in this set were actually previously unpublished in the original set, but were provided to us thanks to Mark himself. Thanks Mark!

Day 1: Reliquary

The first night of festivities began in the Hayes Valley neighborhood at Reliquary. On display were some vintage finds from the Harris collection as well as products from Sam Roberts LA. The hats on display were the centerpiece of the Sam Roberts display, but there were also a few pieces of indigo patchwork goods and garments. Check out that star wabash fabric!

Day 2: AB Fits

As in previous years, Denim Bruin made a stop at veteran denim shop AB Fits in the North Beach neighborhood. Art by Florian Bertmer was on display as well as two vendors who are somewhat new to the scene.

The first was a small labor of love, Griffing Ave, a one man leather goods brand based in the Bay Area. The second, from Khue Trinh and Ray Linsburg, was The Matchbook Company. It was their first showing ever, and the duo made a great first impression.

Day 3: Standard & Strange

The final day was held across the Bay Bridge in Oakland in the little high street known as Temescal Alley. Menswear purveyors Standard & Strange hosted the festivities with a bevy of alcoholic beverages. Indigofera had their setup with jackets, jeans, and wool blankets including some seriously well-worn pieces. Posted up just outside was Nick Hollows of Hollows Leather with his handmade wares for sale.

Always great to see denim brothers (and sisters) from another mother (and mister), the Reddit community is one of the most active and avid groups out there and it was great to see them in person. That’s them in the selvedge conga line.

Denim Bruin continues to be an event with a wide range of denimheads and denim makers. From workwear reproduction to contemporary menswear, denim lovers from all over the spectrum are welcome. If you’re planning on going to any denim event, this should be one of the events on your list.
