Fade of the Day – Levi’s Buckle Belt (30 Years)

Today’s Fade is admittedly a patina, but let’s forget about that. And even though it’s from Levi’s, this submission doesn’t fall within the denim category. Reader Nigel Sequeira wore this Levi’s Buckle Belt for a little over 8 years, but the wear and patina began much earlier when his father originally purchased the belt nearly 20 years beforehand. The story goes that his father spent nearly his entire month’s paycheck to purchase the belt and a pair of 501 jeans back in India.

The belt was eventually passed down to Nigel when he turned 17, brass and leather aging along the way. He says he’ll save the belt from any more wear until his child comes of age, at which point it will be in it’s third generation. Interestingly, Levi’s kept this belt in production all those years since but has decided to discontinue it just this year. It would’ve been great to have seen those original 501’s passed down as well, but nevertheless, it’s a worthy story written into brass and leather.
