Viberg Ebony Latigo Hiking Boot

The logging boom of the early twentieth century begat many of the great workboot makers of the Pacific Northwest. WescoWhite’sNick’s, Danner, and Viberg were all born out of this tradition. They not only competed with each other, but they also helped make each other better. In the 1970s, those last two companies, Danner and Viberg, traded patterns. Viberg gave up the specs for a workboot and Danner the ones for a hiker–a boot that Viberg has made for nearly 40 years.

The latest iteration of this decades old collab (before they were even called collabs) comes whole-cut from a single piece of Ebony Latigo leather, laces nickel eyelets all the way to the toe, is lined with Thinsulate, and has a lugged commando sole. Whether you’re climbing Mt. Hood or a flight of stairs, these hikers are up to the task.

Available for $660 from Viberg. (They’re expensive, but with the Canadian dollar in its current state, now is the best time in a while pick up a pair.)
