Naked & Famous Denim Made In Japan (MIJ) Line

We’re now nearly two months into 2015 and with Spring and Summer just around the corner, we see myriad brands debut new models, collaborations, collections, and in this case, completely new lines. Over the last few years, we’ve come to learn that for better or for worse, Montreal’s Naked & Famous truly knows no boundaries when it comes to their products. From the visual and aromatic to the crowd-pleasing and down right masochistic, each N&F creation serves to stimulate and spur conversation. Their latest offering, the Made in Japan (MIJ) line, is no different.

Implied within the name and unlike their other models which are nearly wholly made in Canada (but sourced from Japan), the MIJ line completely originates from Japan. The denim is constructed with a 15.7 oz loomstate (i.e. unsanforized), tenpi-treated Japanese selvedge denim, meaning the fabric hasn’t undergone any traditional sanforization processes (related reading: Unsanforized Denim – Is It Worth it?), but has been given a cold soak and sun dry. The tenpi treatment removes the shrinkage from the denim, yet maintains the textured and slubby feel that one would expect with a loomstate fabric.

Beyond the fabric, N&F’s MIJ denim is held together with 100% iron buttons, copper rivets, hidden back pocket rivets, raised belt loops, and chain stitched hems. The back right pocket is accented with a small maple leaf embroidery and the vegetable tanned leather patch, as well as the back pocket flasher, features artwork from renowned comic book artist and compatriot, Alvin Lee.
