A little over a month ago, I was able to join Snake Oil Provisions for their grand-opening celebration in the historic Bluff Heights neighborhood of Long Beach, California. There was a solid turnout for a night of giveaways, brews, music, and revelry, with tunes provided by the multi-talented designer and DJ Alyasha Owerka-Moore.
You may remember our previous coverage of SOP’s collaboration with Rogue Teritory. SOP started out as an e-commerce site, but they’ve since ventured into the brick-and-mortar game. Co-founders Ben Neuhaus and Josh Eck have been going strong online for a little over a year, and the move to a brick-and-mortar seemed to be a natural extension of their web presence.
The shop houses an array of menswear brands: In the denim department, they stock Rogue Territory, both jeans and jackets; they carry footwear from the timeless PF Flyers, as well as heritage giant Red Wing, and, a personal favorite of mine, White’s Boots, and some undeniably cool leather jackets from Schott NYC. They also carry watches from Detroit brand Shinola, as well as other accessories. The overall aesthetic leans toward casual but classic high-quality staples. In addition to celebrating their grand opening, the night also marked the official release of the Shore Jacket, a collaboration piece with Ruell & Ray Deadstock.

The jacket is limited to only 20 pieces. It’s an interpretation of the Ruell & Ray Prison Chore jacket with a few twists. It’s made from rinsed charcoal duck canvas, with a little aloha canvas flair under the club collar and on the inside chest pocket.
According to Neuhaus, the brands were going for a combination of street wear and workwear, providing a casual but functional coat that could be worn year-round as a stand-alone or layering piece.
If you’re in the Long Beach area, be sure to drop by the shop. The whole team is super welcoming and willing to engage in a friendly chat regarding any of the pieces they stock. It’s clear that SOP not only sells the lifestyle; they live it as well.
