Fade Friday – Real Japan Blues 103BSP (3 years, 4 washes)

Every once in a while you see the grandaddy of all fades. The Holy Grail of honey combs. This week these Real Japan Blues 103BSP worn by reader Ed Jelley, presents to us fade perfection. An ideal combination of pure indigo and Zimbabwe cotton provided the perfect ingredients for a high contrast fade.

Following four years of wear, this unsanforized pair was worn brutally. These RJBs started fuzzy, wore to shine, then after their first wash entered the ideal state. Natural wear on high-stressed areas faded almost to white and created high contrast combs and whiskers.

After many repairs, some by Self Edge and some by Jelley, these RJBs see less adventure than previous years. Despite their advanced stages, these fades are so perfect that Self Edge offered to buy the back from Jelley to frame for the store. A pair this good isn’t easy to part with so we now have the pleasure of showcasing Jelley’s RJB 103BSPs.
