Self Edge x Dry Bones x SF x SuFu (2.5 years, 12 washes) – Fade Friday

Back in 2008 and still in their early days, American boutique Self Edge teamed up with Japanese denim label Dry Bones to create a collaborative pair with menswear message board Styleforum. The jean was a hit, so they did it again two years later but with Superfuture forum users in the mix as well.

The result is one of the longest model names ever combined with some serious attention to detail. The jean featured a heavyweight 22oz. unsanforized denim with a sulphur-topped warp yarn so it crocked like crazy, dual leather patches above each back pocket, and an embroidered “SF” in lieu of a red tab amongst a host of other unique details. Only 250 pieces were produced.

This pair came from Heddels Forum user docpop, who picked them up right at the launch in 2010 but has put about two and a half years of wear on them. He waited it out for the first wash, but has since just washed them whenever they need it, probably a dozen times total by his estimation.

The result is an even and cleanly faded jean with great contrast and roping. They’ve also held up fairly well, except for a single crotch blowout and cuff wear at around the year and a half mark. Take a look at the full fade below.
