Fade Friday – 3×1 M3 in XX144 (15 months, 1 Rinse, 1 Wash)

Another Fade Friday is upon us and this time it’s brought to you by Rawr Denim forum user Unnmd and his pair of 3×1 M3 jeans. Since buying his jeans, Unnmd has gone on to work for 3×1 and become an outlet of information on the forum for those curious about the company. The denim used for these is a deadstock 12 Oz. Cone Mills fabric that 3×1’s founder, Scott Morrison, found in Cone’s warehouse. The fabric had originally been created for Levi’s to use in a 40/50’s repro jean model.

Despite being purchased over two years ago, these weren’t initially much more than a weekender pair due to the fact that he was working at a different jean company. That changed last July and these have been dedicated to daily wear until he recently purchased another pair of 3×1.

Before their first true wash, Unnmd gave them an ocean rinse-style cleaning in the snow and freshened them up in the freezer with dryer sheets. The lack of water exposure–along with his body type–have caused holes aplenty in the honeycombs and wallet pocket, not to mention a solid crotch blowout.

Unfortunately, the original fit pics were lost but an image of the denim while raw remains. He’s taken plenty of pictures of the jean’s evolution so check them out below.

everything about these is pretty decent for a lightweight denim except for the excessive crotch blow… for the prices 3×1 charge maybe they could reinforce the crotch a bit? Heaven knows its either that or make it using stretch denim when it comes to making lighter weights last.

    • Filthy Fresh

Neither the quality of the denim or the “body type” (as mentioned in the article, LMAO!) have caused the holes and crotch blowout. It’s all about how you wear them – in this case a combination of a tight fit and a little bit of sagging causing extra tension in that area.

funny old fit hey? perhaps not mega surprising there was a blow out

  • Luccese

Is this the ugly friday??? Horrible jeans and fit.

What’s wrong with the fit? I think they look perfectly fine. Not massively high contrast and the crotch blowouts sort of dominate the other fades but overall not bad.

      • bryan solid

Too tight. Don’t flatter the wearer at all. Makes it look as though he’s wearing pants that are too small, not pants that fit snugly.

Had a second look – sadly have to agree with you!

Not a fan – way too tight.

I love the fading on the right back pocket caused by, if I’m not mistaken, The Tanner Goods Wallet

  • pikaneime@email.ext

so did those jeans grow rivets from the fungus formed because of not washing them?

  • bryan solid

Very unflattering fit and very odd fades. Everything from the bottom of the pocket bags and up is quite faded, will everything else is still quite dark, even the combs.

I guess these are just a testament to how every fade is unique.

Agreed, these fades look unnatural, I’m not saying they are, but I’ve never seen another pair look anything like that. It almost looks like the pocket bags caused them to fade like that but I don’t see how that could be the case. The fit is way too tight, even by skinny fit standards, they don’t look like the cut is supposed to fit that way, it just looks like dude sized down way to many sizes. The enormous long wallet also looks really awkward and uncomfortable to carry around in jeans that tight. The crotch seems to be way to blown out for a pair with 15 months of wear, probably because they’re to small (although I’m sure the lightweight denim has something to do with that as well). I hate to blast another man’s hard earned fades, but there’s nothing I like about these at all.

I looked on the 3×1 website and the M3’s don’t look as slim as the one pictured here, why is that? The fit is ok, it’s tough to tell without seeing his whole body, I like the slimmer look for jeans.

Started playing hockey again 3 times a week, result being my thighs got bigger from when i first got them, which also caused the crotch blow out. Yup, its a Tanner Goods wallet!
