Fade Friday – Naked & Famous 22oz Weird Guy (18 months, 1 soak, 1 wash)

This week’s Fade Friday comes courtesy of Rawr Denim forum user GeneralCortexGC, as his posts are signed, has worn this pair of Naked & Famous Elephant 2 22oz. jeans sporadically over the last 18 months and the result, a fully broken in pair of heavyweight denim, has a ton of character.

As is often the case when dabbling in heavy weight denim, GC’s pair of Canadian made denim sports a host of small tears in a variety of locations including the pocket bag. Numerous reinforcing and repair jobs were required to keep them wearable in public.

A personal highlight of GC’s fades are the multiple different personalities this pair has assumed. Deeply contrasted honeycombs and whiskers sit just underneath a relatively washed out rear section, whilst down below we see a rich indigo hue in place of the usual stacking.

very strong contrast fade, i like it!

i noticed a lot of N&F on the past few weeks….oh well, a fade is a fade, can’t complain about that lol

The two different sized phone fades are a little distracting, but i like the knee fades. Perhaps future Fade Fridays could be chosen on photo execution as well as the quality of the Jean? It wouldn’t be that hard to step out side and photograph.

lets not make shit more complicated than it needs to be…if it aint broke, don’t fix it

      • Alex Steinker

didn’t think walking outside so we don’t have to stare at your interior design choices and throw pillows was so complicated. But yes blurred out faces and iPhone pics are dope.

I found that I actually had the best photos inside. I was having trouble with the contrast outside, mostly because the lighting was always really flat, or way too bright because of snow.

Nice fades. I am curious: any holes developing?

    • GeneralCortex

Yes. My pocket bag was a mess. It has since been patched. One of the corners of my phone caused a hole to develop in the jeans too, which was also fixed.

The inseam in the crotch didn’t have holes, but was wearing out. I had that repaired by opening up the inseam and darning it.

On the inseam of the knees there are also a few holes. The bad ones were fixed the same way.

The bottom of the cuffs is a giant hole. When I’m not wearing shoes the jeans do not touch the floor. I think its just a high-stress area and wears out especially fast. Its not really an issue though, and you don’t really notice it unless you unroll the cuff.

I like the fades. I also like naked and famous they make a lot a different types of jeans and are pretty popular. I also think that photographing inside was a better idea because outside you get too much contrast in the light, unless you do it in the very early morning or in the evening. I don’t understand how certain fades can be distracting. What is distracting about it? Does it make you dizzy. Also if you’re thrown off by looking at the inside of the house then you’ve got problems.

I’m personally not a fan of phone fades (especially well defined ones) because I think they look unnatural. Maybe it’s because I’m used to seeing whiskers, honeycombs, etc. in pre-distressed denim for years and years, but no phone fades. I’m not sure. I think I’m in agreement with Alex in saying that the fades in this FF are pretty awesome, but I could do without the “distracting” phone fades.

Also, yes, the wearer could have trekked down to a grafitti-lined alleyway to do the shoot. There are plenty of those in Bushwick and Red Hook.

      BTW, nice throw pillows. Crate&Barrel?
