Naked & Famous Super Skinny Guy Deep Indigo Stretch – Denim Review

Fit

Matt is 6' 1

Matt is 6’1″, 160lbs, and wearing size 30.

When I first tried on this pair I’m not going to lie, I had to do a bit of jumping, hip shaking, sucking in my belly to get the waist buttoned, but only after a few days, the waist fit perfectly. My waist measures out to around 35 inches, so when I got the size 30 I was a little skeptical (even by vanity size standards). After only a week and half of wear, the waist had opened up to 34″ flat, so that 2% Elastane stretch factor really adds a nice comfort to a super skinny pair of jeans. As far as the vice grip on the crotch that one tends to experience when breaking in any pair of skinny jeans, it wasn’t wasn’t too bad, but they’re definitely skinny so I got what I was asking for.

The size 30 fits my skinny/lanky/some might say chicken legged frame perfectly. The thigh (10.5″ before/11″ post wear), knee (7.8″ before/8″ post wear), and tapered leg opening (6.8″ before/7″ post wear) are definitely snug, but again with the stretch fabric not in an overly constricting sort of way. If you’re goto gym routine includes calf raises, this probably isn’t the fit for you. The front rise feels low (9.5″) so you’re either showing the world your Ralph Lauren elastic band or giving yourself a wedgy to compensate.

Fabric

NF-selvedge2

The 98% cotton 2% Elastane sanforized Japanese selvedge denim has a waxy patchy almost fresh paint-like feel to it when you run your hands over it. As you can see from the macro, the weave is good and even like most of Naked & Famous’s offerings except there’s the tiniest bit of fuzziness on the grey tinted weft, especially up near the thigh and crotch.

Still see no sign of fading so it seems like a slow fader. At only 11.5oz and with the 2% Elastane for stretch, it’s the perfect fabric for crazy hot and humid summers, like the one I’m about to experience in NYC.

This model doesn’t dive into the crazy details, but it does serve up everything we’ve come to expect from a Naked & Famous pair of jeans: branded leather back patch,

“Je t’adore toute nue” rivets.

Coin pocket with exposed selvedge ID.

And a button fly with Naked & Famous branded donut buttons.

Construction

If I were to fault this pair at all it would be the construction. Some of rivets are off a touch here or there, there are a few errant pieces of thread sticking out and the pockets are a bit flimsy. I understand that this is a lighter model, so a thicker pocket bag might feel out of place, but it feels like I could rip right through them if I pull a little hard or put too many keys in one pocket.

Value

Other jeans with a similar fabric and fit include the United Stock Dry Goods Deep Indigo Slight ($175) and the Taylor Stitch Overdyed Brenham ($145). Both of those jeans are also solid offerings with equivalent levels of construction and detail, but Naked & Famous is really your only option when it comes to stretch selvedge.

Putting it all together though, this is a really solid everyday pair of jeans at an affordable price point. The stretch factor makes them super comfortable even for a skinny model, the light fabric assures that I will be hiding my calves even in the hottest of summer days, and the indigo color is deep and striking. It’s definitely a solid jean and would be a good and forgiving first pair for anyone looking to get into raw.
