Fade Friday – Mod9 The Old School (1 year, 3 washes)

When it comes to denim, Asia plays host to a significant amount of brands, mills, and customers. For many people, “Japanese” is almost synonymous with “high quality” as a large portion of denim production comes from Japanese mills. But in recent years, we’ve seen growing attention on other countries like Indonesia (Elhaus, Bluesville), Thailand (Viapiana, Indigoskin) and even China (Red Cloud) as they’ve begun producing well made goods.

South Korea plays a large part in many industries, but there has not been much movement in terms of denim production so it was a pleasant surprise to come across a well worn jean by a South Korean brand, Mod9, that has been around for several years and is now ramping up production that includes several fits, fabrics, and washes as well as a collaboration with denim giant Momotaro.

This particular Mod9 jean is their The Old School jean which is a slim tapered jean made from a blue lined 14.5 oz dark indigo Japanese selvedge denim. Unfortunately, we don’t know much about how the owner wore the jeans but what we do know is that it was worn for a year and washed 3 times. Starting off in a darker indigo color, the jean now shows some nice contrast fades and whiskering but still keeps some of the dark indigo color.

We’re slowly learning more about the brand and after seeing this pair, we look forward to seeing more jeans from Mod9.

I really like the way this denim looks. It has that nice deep blue hue in the crevices, similar to PBJ.

really looks like a pike brothers jeans, they fade very similar and also feature a D-ring

for your pocket watch, so that’s not really an unique feature.

Big fan of this style of fading. Slow fading = Long wear . Im quite curious to see what they would of looked like with a few more washes though.

Dis seems to be a good fabric and fit. Nice slow progress on the fades. I just dislike the untidy backpocket fold. It’s hideous. Kinda like N&F, but if you can look past dat….then it’s gerat

Great denim evolution and strong looking fabric seen here. Still plenty of life left. Would love to have them back in another year to see their full denim evolution potential.
