Seattle-based Blue Owl Workshop is a great online source for a variety of denim brands. No stranger to collaborations, the shop has done collaborations with familiar brands ranging from Momotaro to Naked & Famous. One of the many that they sell is the well-known Japan Blue, a popular choice in Japanese denim due to its price range and level of quality. The newest collaboration at Blue Owl is between the two companies, the Japan Blue x Blue Owl 16.5oz “Deep Indigo Monster” Unsanforized Selvedge Denim.

Coming in a tapered fit, the newest entry in the Monster series features a very slubby denim that is a beautiful dark indigo color. The dark color stems from the sulphur-dyed black weft, leading to electric blue fades that are a sight to behold. Tonal stitching is featured throughout, as well as a Tanner Goods leather patch, gunmetal rivets, and custom hickory stripe pocket bags.

These jeans won’t be available until April, so you have plenty of time to plan how you’ll get your hands on one of the only 200 pairs being produced. Be sure to check out the details and photos below, and then head over to Blue Owl Workshop‘s website to stay in the loop on any updates.

Can someone explain to me what diffrence the sulfur dyed weft makes in the fading process? I know the IH use the same process but I’ve never seen sulfur dyed weft faded denim.

    Thanks!

By IH, do you mean ironheart?

      • Sindri

        Yes

Flat head has a pair of sulfur dyed black jeans. I believe they are more resistant to fade, but don’t quote me.

Too bad this pair comes in tapered only. I’d love a straight fit version.

Any measurements? Leg, knee, thigh, rise? Price?

Colored wefts usually make the whole overcast of the denim darker so when fading starts it appears more high contrast than normal indigo/white.
