Introducing the Rawr Denim Scout – Making Your Raw Denim Hunt Easier

Some of the most common questions we get here at Rawr Denim are from people looking for advice on what pair to buy next:  Where can I find something Japanese and tapered for under 150 bucks? What jeans are made with Nihon Menpu denim? Who makes something with a 26 inch waist?

To be honest, there are a lot of raw jeans out there and even if you’ve been deep into the culture for years, it’s impossible to remember exactly who makes what and where all of the time.

That’s why we’re proud to introduce the answer to all of those questions, the Rawr Denim Scout. Over the past several months we’ve built an exhaustive raw denim database and paired it with a variety of search filters – price, brand, denim weight, fit, country, etc. – that will help you scout out exactly what jean you’re looking for. Simply adjust the filters, hit search, and you’ll see every pair that matches your specs from our index of over 4,000 jeans.

Now this is just the first version and we’ve done our best to make it the best, but we’ll be the first to admit there may be the occasional bug or typo floating around. If you happen to notice an error, missing denim model and/or brand, or just have a note about any brands or features you’d like to see, we’d love to hear about it. Please make a note of it in the comments section below or send us an email at Just like a pair of jeans, it’ll get even better with some use and a bit of time.

But what are you still doing reading? Get on over to the Scout and try it out!

Very cool! Noticed a couple kinks, especially when using the true waist description. Otherwise I was very impressed with the the variety of denim and it is a nice easy to use layout.

why did you guys delete devans coment

    • Rawr Denim

We didn’t. He must have deleted it himself.

      • Devan Prithipaul

        I did.

I deleted it. I didnt really like it, and didnt think it was well written (I had just woken up). But congrats for seeing it, I think it was only up for around 3 minutes. Something like, “Although there is certainly a vast majority of denim presented here, I did notice a few kinks, especially with the waist size feature, sometimes waist sizes that are available were not shown.”

This is pretty damn cool for a prototype search engine. I’m super excited to see what this develops into. Some things that would be a huge time saver in many denim head’s searches would be to allow users to select thigh size (include a disclaimer that there are a couple ways of measuring thigh size) and the length of rise.

Hartford Denim Co. should be included down the line some time.

This is a great feature. As you roll it out, I’d also like to see a “Rise” category and “Skinny” added to the “Fit” section.

Love this! Such a great idea!!

  • Suggestions

Such a brilliant idea. I think that a fully evolved version of this could be incredible. Some suggestions for possible preferences that you could make on the side bar: The color of the thread in the selvedge, The color of the warp, the color of the weft, the weaving style (e.g. LHT, RHT, BT), and the slubbiness or neppiness of the denim. I hope you guys implement some of these features!
