United Stock Dry Goods Fall/Winter 2013 Collection

United Stock Dry Goods FW'13

In the world of denim and menswear, Canada has a strong presence with brands such as Naked and Famous, wings+horns, Reigning Champ, and Viberg creating high quality goods that have won over customers all around the world. Over the last couple of years, United Stock Dry Goods has come on board and joined these big names with their strong line up of denim and tops.

For their Fall/Winter 2013 collection, founders Sydney Mamane and Michael Cavaggioni have decided to expand their offerings with even more styles of denim, as well as a pretty wide selection of shirts and jackets.

Indigo has obviously seen a resurgence as raw denim has become more popular and United Stock Dry Good‘s FW’13 releases prominently feature the use of indigo dye. Their newest denim fabric is an 14 oz indigo warp/indigo weft Japanese selvedge denim that has a deep indigo colour with an almost purple hue to it and comes in both of their “Narrow” and “Slight” fits.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen indigo/indigo denim being used but nevertheless it’s a great fabric that shows high contrast fades in a short period of time due to all the yarns being indigo dyed. Alongside the indigo/indigo jeans, a double black jean joins the line up as well as their standard indigo 12.5 oz jean, a 14 oz. grey selvedge jean, and a dark indigo dyed chino which features a fabric that is a replica of a 17th century loose weave cotton fabric with a rougher hand than what you’d expect from chinos.

As for their tops, United has been busy creating a selection that includes various styles of shirts, terry cloth sweatshirts, vests and coats; the standout of which has to be the indigo chore coats. The chore coat comes in several fabrics including an indigo dyed twill fabric as well a dobby fabric that is traditionally used in judo robes.

The combination of the dobby fabric, a fabric made on a dobby loom that creates extra textures and geometric shapes in the fabric, and indigo dye is surely going to produce some interesting fades that will look different from an indigo denim fade. As for their shirting options, Sydney and Michael experiment with different types of fabrics and dyeing techniques such as double face plaids, indigo yarn dyed dobby plaids, gingham herringbone, and printed oxfords.
