Fade Friday – Railcar Fine Goods Viper X001 (11 Months, 0 Washes)

As any female denim enthusiast surely knows, a high-quality and durable pair of raw denim jeans in a flattering lady’s cut is elusive at best and an oxymoron at worst. Last year, however, a number of raw denim jeans for women were featured right here on this site for the first time in our history. Although they’ve seen growth in popularity recently, even now only a handful of makers sell lady’s cuts and and the majority of them are North American.

This week’s Fade Friday comes to us from Railcar Fine Goods, who have been featured several times before in this segment; such as this pair of Spikes X002Railcar was founded three years ago in Arcadia, California by Steven Dang, an engineer for the Los Angeles Metro who has carried the engineering spirit into the denim world with his trademark “built” jeans.

The Viper X001, one of Railcar’s signature ladies models, is cut from 13.5oz non-stretch red-line selvedge denim made in the White Oak plant of the historic Cone Mills of North Carolina. It is “built” from the same denim as the men’s Spikes X001 and features the same two-piece waistband sewn together with one continuous chain-stitch.

One of the most remarkable facets of the Viper is that in addition to the beautiful fading and remarkable craftsmanship, with time this modern cut gradually accentuates the feminine silhouette of the wearer as the denim is broken in; a feat that is normally achieved with much lighter, more elastic fabrics.

I know this isn’t the first time women’s jeans have been featured on the site, and I certainly hope it won’t be the last. We’re finally at a point where women have a decent raw denim selection, and I for one love to see the differences in fades that they present. Although these certainly have a lot of life left in them, I very much look forward to seeing how they progress later on–especially since Railcar has been known to produce quality denim.

Now I just need to see if I can convince my lady to pick up some raw denim. 😉

CMIIW, but i think this is the first woman’s jeans ever featured on Fade Friday.

      and damn, that looks amazing!

It seems my moderated comment never went through, but I had written a post linking to the other two women’s jeans featured in Fade Fridays. The first was a pair of Nudie Jeans High Kai’s from 2011, and the second was a women’s pair of Flat Head jeans from a short while ago–August of this year.

They both are very awesome pairs worth checking out if you haven’t seen them, and are a strong testament to the fact that women’s jeans fade beautifully.

Nice overall fadings on them with plenty of life left. In another 2 years they’ll end up beautifully

11 months no wash… and even more impressive no tears? Great Fade Friday!

It’s actually would be a “contradiction” and not “oxymoron at worst.” A contradiction is two words with opposing meanings, while an oxymoron is two words with apparently contradictory meanings, but is non-contradictory in context.

Beautiful fades, and keep up posting pics of woman’s jeans! We need to get more women into raws! :-)

The oxymoron thing bothered me as well.

Where does that much indigo disappear with NO washes? I have to presume that these have had some rinses, no?

    • BillygoatsGruff312

      not necessarily

oh hey you’re right! i never seen the nudie one (i even thought that the nudies listed on FF are worn by men) but i forgot about the FH one although it’s pretty recent.

My girlfriend loves her pair of Vipers! She actually loves her pair of the high waisted Donnas from Railcar Fine Goods even more. I was pretty excited to finally get her into a solid pair of women’s raw selvedge denim. We actually have a pair of the Vipers in our shop that have 2 1/2 years of wear and the fading is incredible!
