Fade Friday – Railcar Fine Goods Viper X001 (11 Months, 0 Washes)

As any female denim enthusiast surely knows, a high-quality and durable pair of raw denim jeans in a flattering lady’s cut is elusive at best and an oxymoron at worst. Last year, however, a number of raw denim jeans for women were featured right here on this site for the first time in our history. Although they’ve seen growth in popularity recently, even now only a handful of makers sell lady’s cuts and and the majority of them are North American.

This week’s Fade Friday comes to us from Railcar Fine Goods, who have been featured several times before in this segment; such as this pair of Spikes X002Railcar was founded three years ago in Arcadia, California by Steven Dang, an engineer for the Los Angeles Metro who has carried the engineering spirit into the denim world with his trademark “built” jeans.

The Viper X001, one of Railcar’s signature ladies models, is cut from 13.5oz non-stretch red-line selvedge denim made in the White Oak plant of the historic Cone Mills of North Carolina. It is “built” from the same denim as the men’s Spikes X001 and features the same two-piece waistband sewn together with one continuous chain-stitch.

One of the most remarkable facets of the Viper is that in addition to the beautiful fading and remarkable craftsmanship, with time this modern cut gradually accentuates the feminine silhouette of the wearer as the denim is broken in; a feat that is normally achieved with much lighter, more elastic fabrics.
