Kanye West A.P.C. Capsule Collection KANYE JEANS – Just Released

Though we’re admittedly late to the party on this release, French basic wear brand, A.P.C., unveiled their joint collection with Kanye West on Sunday, July 14th at 10:00AM. The release, aptly named the A.P.C. Kanye Capsule Collection, comes after weeks of speculation and rumours and consists of two pairs of jeans, three hoodies, and two t-shirts.

According to a recent post by A.P.C. founder, Jean Touitou, the two sides initially made contact over two years ago when West reached out to Touitou with hopes of picking his brain on how to get started in the Fashion industry. As the two became closer friends, the idea arose to partner together and produce a “small” range of collaborative pieces.

Or in Touitou’s full words:

Over two years ago, a visitor to the A.P.C. studio was announced to me as “Kenny”. He wanted my advice on the fashion industry; although I found such a request quite vague, as a mutual friend introduced us, I met with the guy. The guy talks, talks and talks and I was having a good time listening. He had nice manners and spoke about losing his mother in a surgery accident, about losing his girlfriend too, and about how difficult doing the right thing in fashion was. After a while, I was curious to know what this gentleman was currently doing in his life. I simply asked him: “May I know what your trade is, sir?” He took his shades down, so that finally I could see his eyes, and answered me: “I am a hip hop artist.”

At some point my crew informed me that his name was West, Kanye West. I introduced him to the A.P.C. design studio, and he kept asking how he could start something in that fashion industry. This is when we all advised him to start that something in France, and keep quiet about fashion noise while learning about it. Then later, as we became friends, he invited me to his recording studio at Hotel Meurice. At the time he was working with Jay-Z on an album, which wasn’t already named, Watch the Throne. Over the months, we kept hanging out and finally came up with the idea of doing a small capsule collection of clothes together. “Small” meaning that this capsule collection consists of a jean, a hoodie and a T-Shirt. Those are precious to me and to Kanye too, because it took time and thoughts to get there.

We know many may moan and groan and roll their eyes when hearing mention of either A.P.C. or Yeezus. However, given how radically different both parties are in their creative approaches, one can’t deny the eccentric lure of this release. A.P.C. is of course known for it’s minimal, ready-to-wear garments and subdued aesthetics, while West is (in)famous for his more loud and often disjointed sense of style.

In terms of the actual denims within the collection, deeming them as revolutionary or recommending them as “must-haves” would be a stretch. Aside from the red A.P.C. KANYE label, both the raw and stonewashed denim utilize A.P.C.‘s standard 13 Oz. Japanese raw denim and a wide hipped, skinny legged silhouette with low rise. This combined with the denim’s traditional hardware and construction, on the surface the value just doesn’t seem to be there.

  • Seriously ugly

I can already tell that this would be an extremely ugly fit. Just gives you proof why the fashion world rejected kanye…

  • Jun

Is it still Made in Vietnam like the rest of APC denim?

    • QBNY

I wouldn’t harp on Vietnam or China for that matter. Major companies like Levis, G-Star, etc are making a lot of denim over there. It’s smaller factories that do smaller brands is who you should worry about… The quality isn’t there, nor is Quality Control (QC). Just check you next pair of denim. Look for a small sticker or pater note, that’s QC.

  • shuttup

    kanye west ??? pfftttt….

  • Devan Prithipaul

This pair is totally worth it! the silhouette is so unique and interesting that is what is proprietary in them. Also the stonewashed pair is really interesting in that the way the fades go on the body. I’m sure that fading these yourself would get just as unique fades because of the fit.

    • yada

Care to explain what’s so unique about the fit?
Low rise, wide hipped and skinny…90% of women jeans are cut like this

    • Wazzifer

You’re new around here, aren’t you?

      • Devan Prithipaul

Lol have you seen my profile? im not at all new here,

  • Derek

regardless of kanye’s name on the label, i think the silhouette of the denim is very interesting and i’d love to see a fit pic of it. reminds me of ilu zespy’s but without the drop crotch. i’d definitely buy it, but not for $265.

at least it’s not the same old cookie-cutter bs cut every single denim producer is using these days. i can get a mid rise, straight leg cut from dozens of other companies. this industry needs something new.

    • BeastGod

What’s the new thing the industry needs?

  • Aslyn

A.P.C. hasn’t been worth the money they’re charging for years. Back when they were around $100 a pair, sure. But they want $265 for this pair? Are they crazy?

  • Johnson Benjamin

Hmm. I would rather have a pair of GAP selvedge.

    • Johnson Benjamin

Or a number of any other jeans. If I was gonna drop sub 300 on a pair, would not be these. Nothing intriguing here.

      • showbe

And no one replying was saying these APC’s were nice. But by implying Gap is better than Japanese brands cuts/fabrics/fits/product just shows what you know and what you have owned.

    • QBNY

I have a pair of Gap Selvedge.. Kinda Good, In my opinion…

      • Johnson Benjamin

I have a pair of the ‘premium’ selvedge and a selvedge pair from Gap. The premium pair are very nice. Button fly, great weight, excellent fit and affordable (made in India, but very good quality). The other pair are not put together as well, zipper fly, cheaper rivets, but good fabric though. I paid $70 for one and $27 for the other. That explains it all.

        • Devan Prithipaul

premium selvedge would cost A LOT more than 70$.

          • Johnson Benjamin

Premium is a style of Gap denim. Such as the “premium” line of jeans, one type offered was raw selvedge, among other types.
Do no under estimate these jeans though. Gap has the ability to order huge quantities, saving money on bulk. Imported, money saving again. Construction wise, some of the best jeans I have seen, and I like the material.

          • Devan Prithipaul

hmm if Gap is the best construction of jeans you have seen….I think you need to try some better denim buddy. I recommend as a starting point, samurai, momotaro, oni, or naked and famous if you’re on a budget.

          • Johnson Benjamin

I said some of the best.
I guess the label is not good enough for you.

          • showbe

Your not tricking anyone here saying Gap is better than some of the Japanese brands listed by Dirty Denim as a starting point. Those are for people who are far more into raw denim than someone like this Johnson fellow who thinks Gap is premium denim. Even if they can purchase in bulk they will most likely not be using Japanese or Italian denim. Do you think those brands mentioned above cant purchase in bulk either?

And I am betting Gap probably sources their denim from Cone Mills like every other American brand. Which isn’t anything comparable to what brands like Momotaro, Oni, or samurai. You obviously have never tried on some REAL good denim from Japan if you say Gap is great. Until you try on a brand that uses Italian or Japanese selvedge then you have no idea what Premium denim is my friend.

          • Johnson Benjamin

I am sorry someone peed in your cheerios yesterday morning.
*Premium was the name of the line Gap offered the jeans under.
*They are also labeled as Japanese denim.

Clearly, there is no way possible I could ever know anything about denim since I appreciated Gap jeans. What was I thinking.

          • showbe

Ok maybe I was wrong about it not being Japanese selvedge, either way after looking at the jeans/fit/fade pictures those gap jeans look like complete shit. Even if it uses Japanese selvedge the fit is horrible compared to other jeans that cost just a little more.. You can buy unbranded for 80 bucks and they will have a better fit than Gap.

          • Johnson Benjamin

The list price was 90. I purchased on sale.

  • Wazzifer

This doesn’t even deserve a dedicated article.

the weft looks very similar to N&F Dirty Fade, which i’m beating now.

i’m guessing it’ll fade the same way.

so glad I don’t live in a world where I have to have the new kanye jeans, or even think that theyre cool, especially for that price.

  • QBNY

Hmm, Sold Out, huh? No Rivets? -Not even hidden? $265.00?

This jean is no different from a pre production Sample, overseas..

Congrats to the lucky buyers… Y’all just got screwed by the HYPE.

  • Davil

Looks like a real serious attempt at girlfriend jeans. Not really my style and given what I’ve seen about previous APC’s, these seem like they are iching for a crotch blow out within the first 6 months…for a guy with an athletic build, they look so damn tight, and not in a good way. If your a guy with a flat azz, you will probably end up with a sag. So there is the potential for them to be tight in the thigh and saggy in the bottom? (fit pics please) I dont get it…I guess maybe tight/saggy is fashion forward? Some people will buy into the hype. For me, there are many other more interesting pairs of denim at this price point.

  • Devan Prithipaul

I would like to mention the hypocrisy in this, Kanye West spreads a message that material obsessions will not help the african american community recover from the effects of slavery, now he collaborates with A.P.C. I would like to know who exactly Yeezus wants to buy these jeans.

  • trehsu

I don’t know what this article is saying about these jeans having APC’s traditional hardware, these definitely have a plain gold looking metal button, not the silver pres du luxembourg botton from other APCs.

  • kcyeezyfan

kanye announced he plans to have a less pricey collection and that a.p.c is the ones who priced them. i want the damn things . i buy his albums. i have a yeezus shirt on now. hes the shit in the urinal

    • BillygoatsGruff312

haha dont hold your breath on that collection; no one in fashion wants to work with a 36 year man that acts like a 14 year old princess on her period.

but its christmas, go ahead and buy the APCs as a gift to yourself. i’m not a kanye fan, but jeans last a long time and you only need one or two pairs…treat yourself 😉

  • BillygoatsGruff312

Holy crap. $300 for sweatshop denim?! APCs laughing all the way to the bank on these suckas.
