Fade Friday – BIG JOHN M1 Thin M106C (18 Months, 3 Washes)

Fade Friday: Big John M106C (18 Months, 3 Washes), Honeycombs

This week’s Fade Friday comes to us thanks to the collaboration of Ryu Adachi, designer at BIG JOHN, and his BIG JOHN M1 THIN (M106C). He wore the jeans intensively the first year before scaling back to roughly twice a week for the next 6 months.

He has washed the pair 3 times over the 18 month span; the first wash after 7 months, the second at the 1 year mark and the third after 1.5 years, always with cold water and minimal soap. The denim is RURI, a 14.5oz BIG JOHN original Japanese sanforized selvedge denim designed “to replicate the color of the best selling BIG JOHN jeans in the 1970′s”.

Paul's first experience with raw denim was at the age of 10 when his parents purchased him a pair of raw Lee Jeans. After many years, he found the very same pair of jeans in the U.S. and since then his interest in denim became a passion. Now based in Holland, Paul is constantly researching and experimenting with the amazing fabric.

I’m not a huge fan personally but I think they look nice. That blue is very nice and unusual in raw denim. a good example of denim being done differently.

Not a huge fan but think they look nice??? Make up your mind mate. You are just making comments for the sake of it lately.

        • Devan Prithipaul

not really, i can appreciate why these jeans look nice even if they dont look like something i would wear.

I’m not a big fan of the even sanforized texture, but I kind of like the overall color – that light blue looks nice. This pair has a pleasant, summery sort of vibe that you don’t see often from raw denim.

Really liking the color. Can’t wait for my APC’s to get to a lighter color, I’m getting tired of having only dark colored jeans

Love the concept, the denim, and the fades! I think some people get confused when comparing oldschool denim cuts or frabrics with some of the newer edgier designs. I think this color is perfect for 70′s denim, and the fabric has faded nicely without any damage that I can see.

visually the back pocket are not the same…this is a modded jean version…the cut resembles Nudie Thin Finns…I reckon…
