Fade Friday – Naked & Famous WeirdGuy Indigo Selvedge (2 Years, No Washes)

Whether you’re a newcomer or old hand to raw denim, it’s inevitable that the name “Naked and Famous” has either come up in conversation or found it’s way into your wardrobe. The creative minds over at Naked and Famous have undeniably designed some of the most interesting jeans on the market, as well as consistently providing more traditional options that focus solely on quality materials, solid construction, and great fits at reasonable prices.

Featured on today’s Fade Friday is a pair of Naked and Famous Weird Guy Indigo Selvedge coming all the way from Tokyo, Japan. Previously showcased on N&F‘s site, these Indigo Selvedge are a fairly standard jean that boast a mid-weight (13 oz) Japanese denim, as well as an attractive tonal stitching.

These jeans were worn for two years by an employee over at a souvenir jacket shop called, “Yokosuka Jumper”. According to the individual who submitted the photos, these jeans have never been washed and all repairs were done by the owner himself.

Unfortunately there isn’t much insight as to what the jeans have gone through in the last two years. However, from the looks of how much they’ve transformed from the original raw state, it’s safe to assume that these were very well worn.

That jacket is sick! fades are nice, but i found those honeycombs a bit weak. the jeans seem to be a little big, i don’t think weird guy is “supposed” to look like that, but i think that looser fits are more popular in asia. I’m surprised that given the fit he has been able to get such nice fades.

I hope I don’t start a flame war, but would you care to share a picture for which you have nothing negative to say? I understand people have different preferences, but not every fade friday requires a negative comment, even if there is something you don’t like.

      • Me

If he has a negative opinion of the fade, why should he censor himself? your comment is ridiculous

      • http://www.facebook.com/devan.prithipaul Devan Prithipaul

i don’t really think I was being negative… looser fits are preffered in asia, and although i don’t care for those combs, maybe he was more focused on getting that crazy vertical fading.

I think you/we should just ignore him. He’s either an elaborate troll or someone who’s handed everything by his parents and seems to think everyone wants to hear his opinion. Just ignore him and he may just go away.

I’m not a troll and I pay for everything that I own.

          • Trevor Hsu

He didn’t say anything that was really rude or critical. Just said he thought they were pretty loose for weird guys. What’s wrong with that?

    • small pines

      ….said a guy with a skinny jeans

    • Chris

I’ve actually heard the argument that looser fits have more potential for great honeycombs, while they wont be as tight, there is more room for the denim to rub together in the back of the knee. seemed logically when i heard it.

But i agree, for how faded the rest of the jeans are, im surprised at the “non-definition” of the combs. curious what he was doing to get a fade like this

      • http://www.facebook.com/devan.prithipaul Devan Prithipaul

Yes, that’s right! i have a pair of looser fitting jeans (i hate them) but they have by far the most defined and interesting honeycombs! yeah, it seems like he was a store worker “These jeans were worn for two years by an employee over at a souvenir jacket shop”, but that seems strange… would be nice to hear on what he was doing.

Awesome fades! And the personal repairs really give the denim some extra character.

  • Buckhum

I wonder how often he wore these and what he did with them as I feel that the damage is quite extensive for a 2 year old pair. Of course, his lifestyle is probably vastly different from mine (super sedentary)

  • Ryan Chinaski

I contest that they would have looked better with a wash here and there. They probably wouldn’t be as tattered either. The whole no washing thing has gotten out of hand.

I really like those strong fading and wear patterns and patina. I myself
also prefere to wear the looser fit. It’s just more comfi for me. And I
don’t see any troubles with never washed raw denim pants or denim
jackets. Perhaps he likes the natural fading style like me and he just
wants to avoid to loose the raw denim colour which will turn into a
royal blue after the first wash

    • Greg Wirtz

      Totally agree.

      Danny Brown knows what’s up

  • WGlht

His knee not fit then the honeycombs no so nice :(

  • Filthy Fresh

I wonder if he’s wearing that mouth cap because of the smell. Good fades though. The jeans are very blue-ish, is that true colour or did they alter the saturation?

  • chicagolaw1

This is the best I’ve seen in a while. And the jacket is hot.

  • who the hell took this photos

    nice fade and stupid fit

  • http://www.facebook.com/johnsonlb Johnson Benjamin

Well, hes beat them to death. Good for him.

  • Chris

I love these, always interesting to see that so many people don’t!

The mask is par for the course over here. It’s an island nation where containing diseases that can quickly spread and kill everybody’s taken seriously…that’s kind of a throwback thing that never went away with time. Tons of people wear em in public to either contain germs they have when they’re sick, or avoid germs others have when THEY’RE sick.

I lived in Yokosuka, the jacket’s from one of a trillion souvenir shops in this area that have been catering to the sailors/soldiers/Marines on Yokosuka Naval Base since the 50’s…..the jackets are easy to get and range from $50 up to $500 or more for the vintage/intricately designed ones.

The jacket’s sick, I’m a huge fan and own one myself. Is it Taylor Toyo?

  • Quoc Nguyen

Anyone know what kind of shoes the guy is wearing in the before photo?
