When it comes to finding great, quality raw denim in unexpected places, South East Asia may just take the cake. Given heavy dry denim isn’t at the forefront of most’s “What I Wear Today” when temperatures begin to climb, we’re starting to see some budding brands produce superb denim in a region where the average daily temperature is 80°F - 85°F (25°C – 30°C) and humidity levels at least 75%. Although we’ve yet to uncover all of these brands, a handful that we’ve encountered thus far include AkaimeElhausOld Blue Co., Bluesville, and of course, Cheese Denim.

Just over three years old, Cheese Denim seems to progressing consistently; iterating on their models every 6-8 months with combinations of different weights, materials, and detailing (e.g. patches, selvedge color, back pocket patterns, etc.). Indeed the Malaysia-based label has implemented some thoughtful and peculiar modifications on each pair, but one department that has been somewhat of a mystery is the denim’s fading capability.

Thus, when one of Cheese‘s team members, Chie, sent over these progression shots of a pair of SF-003JK, it was a complete no-brainer to share on Fade Friday. Little is known as to what what this pair has specifically been through, but we do know they’ve been worn daily for just six months and treated to four soaks and one wash.

What we find especially appealing about them is the fade progression around the thighs and front whiskers; likely a result of the number of soaks in a short period of time (and of course, heavy daily wear).

I remember Cheese Denim, although last time I saw them the leather patch was different, it was like a slice of cheese. Fades are good, not super high contrast, but they are fine. Very intense honeycombs. I like his 1 wash 4 soak, i think that is a very safe, maybe could have done without 1 soak, but this guy really knows how to fade jeans.

“1 wash 4 soak is very safe to fade a jeans”
but “1 wash 1 soak is better”
“this guy really knows how to fade jeans”

dude, if it gets dirty and smelly, just soak or wash it, there is no rules in raw denim !!!
and everyone knows how to fade jeans, it is called the FUCKING WEAR IT method

Dude you’re getting mad at me for no reason. I meant that by washing his jeans once and soaking them four times, he achieved a good result, thats all im saying.I suggested that one wash and three soaks might be better, as in 4-1=3. and when i said that he knew how to fade jeans… in other words im saying they are nice fades… you take things too seriously my friend.

        • olalala

please, gtfo of rawrdenim and your stupid washing-soaking formula
you take things too stupidly my friend

In my opinion, the most beautiful faded raw denim is that with the highest contrast. With that said, these are not very beautiful.

The fit is awful. The fades are OK.

If you go to the Naked and Famous Facebook page they posted my fades there if you want to take a look, its for the Naked and Famous X Kamikaze Attack Collab.

      • Why.

Did you really compliment your own pair of jeans in the comments?

      • johnnybravvo

I looked. MEH. Pretty low-contrast. Keep chipping away at that marble, Michelangelo.

  • gary turnbull

Cheese grater denim………. cheese grating his ass.

Honestly, I like these alot. People sometimes obsess about high contrast, but when I see these, I’m thinking longlonglong term fading and usage. In the long run, these are going to come out beautiful and still be greatly wearable for anything. Also I like that fit on the user.

Too bad the fit is shit.
