5 Pairs Of Sneakers To Be Worn With Denim

When it comes to choosing footwear to wear with your favorite pair of denim, there’s nothing quite like finding a perfect combination that makes you feel invincible. To help you find those perfect sneakers, we’ve put together a list of five of our favorite pairs of sneakers to wear with our denim.

1. New Balance 996

To be fair, any pair of footwear from the New Balance Classics range will look kick-ass when coupled with a pair of raw denim. However, if I had to pick one, the New Balance 996 would definitely be it.

The New Balance 996 is easily one of the most comfortable shoes you will ever wear (it is essentially a running/walking shoe with a pretty face) and the fact that is exclusively made in the USA, has a wicked suede/mesh upper (that comes in a variety of colors) and awesome retro styling that is secretly chock full of technology makes it my top pick.

2. Nike Roshe Run

Despite being a relatively new shoe on the sneaker scene, the Nike Roshe Run has already proven extremely popular. The Nike Roshe Run is similar to the New Balance Classics range in the essence that it is an extremely stylish take on the classic running shoe, however that’s where the similarities stop.

In stark contrast to the New Balance Classics range, the Nike Roshe Run “epitomizes simplicity”. No unnecessary detail is left on the shoe and the result – a sneaker with beautiful sweeping horizontal lines – looks awesome when worn with a pair of cuffed selvedge.

3. Converse Chuck Taylor

The Converse Chuck Taylor  shoe can be worn with pretty much anything. With proud American history dating back to 1917, it’s no doubt that it will be the most recognizable on this list. Another great aspect of the Converse Chuck Taylor is the relatively affordable price (saving money on shoes means more to spend on denim).

 4. Vans Authentic/Classic Era

These two pairs of shoes are some of the most iconic American sneakers of all time –  a staple in every sneaker loving man and women’s wardrobe. Barely distinguishable – the Classic Era shoe has padding around the heel cup – both of these pairs of sneakers give off an awesome summer-beach style vibe when worn sock-less with rolled up jeans.

Perfect for a summer BBQ or road-trip. And, to the satisfaction of the most fashion forward denim wearers out there, the Vans Authentic and Vans Classic Era shoes come in a huge array of different colors and materials, allowing for smooth selvedge line/sneaker color co-ordination.

5. Our Legacy Off Court

The Our Legacy Off Court Trainer

The Off Court trainer from European brand, Our Legacy is made from full Italian Leather. The brand takes inspiration from ” 1950s expressionists authors and artists” and that is evident in the styling of the Off Court shoe resembling a retro tennis trainer. Just like raw denim, the materials that this shoe is constructed out of will age with wear and produce an awesome piece of footwear that  will no doubt become your denims best friend.

We would love to hear what sneakers you love to pair with your raw denim. Let us know in the comment section below!

    wat. no common projects. ok.

    • Jacob

wat. not everyone has $300 to drop on a pair of fucking sneakers.

      • Grazfather x

Yeah. That money is for the fucking jeans.

    • lesspretentious

you could have been less pretentious and responded to the last sentence of the article with a simple “i like to wear common projects with my denim”

  • jefari

Paul Smiths new line works well

  • Jun

    No Lacoste?

  • Rodspeed

#5 ftw! However, is that a suede upper I see on those Vans (#4)? Sick.

  • SaladHead

There are tons and tons of shoes that could’ve been on this list, but they’ve chosen the 5 that they find the most appaling, and I get that.
I approve of this list, even though I would’ve chosen Nike Free instead of Roshe, and perhaps Adidas Sambas instead of the Our Legacy. But that’s just me.

    • johnmarsh

The Free is a proper running shoe, and it’s less about minimalist style and more about function. The Roshe runs are already debatable with skinny jeans but the frees will look awful like any proper running shoe.

  • amh

1st picture is not 996, that one is 1300jp.

  • Ryan Chinaski

no gazelles? Oh wait, I forgot the trendy cannibalized Adidas some months ago.

  • whorebucks

New balance has been making some serious good stuff. I haven’t had a any other shoe brand for 5 years now.

  • Tim

    No keds royal?

    NO TOMS?

    • MosquitoControl

Can’t tell if sarcastic or not, but god no, no TOMS. They’re like Crocs, only they artificially make you feel better about yourself.

    • Richalicious

      OMG…. get a grip !!!! say no to TOMS !! :)

  • WWDS (What Would Devan Say)

What? No G Star High Tops?

    • growe13

      …Devan wouldn’t say that…

  • bozich

what about the jack purcell cons?

    • William Harris

    • Michael

They are essentially a converse shoe. It wouldn’t make sense having them both in the same article considering the choice was limited to 5 shoes. I hope that you’re not suggesting that converse be replaced by jack purcell?

  • pelle

that left nb isn’t a 996 but the 1300jp, you ain’t going to find that pair. but it looks astonishing with a nice tapered denim.

  • Jose

Converse allstars are a must have for any denim lover

  • oilpit

Roshes (and running shoes in general) should absolutely never be worn, unless you are going for a run…and nobody does that wearing denim. Of all the Nikes to choose, I’m astounded that Roshes made the list, no Dunks? Blazers? Janoskis? Sersiously?

    • roshe

The Nike Roshe’s aren’t actually designed as a running shoe. They have all the aesthetics of a running shoe but the sole would cause terrible injuries. They are far from a running shoe and have taken the street wear scene by storm! Do some research before you critisize someones fashion sense.

    Tretorn Rodlera

      Good call, also the nylite.

Yikes, the first two are going to get a lot of hate (a bunch of denim nerds seem to have NB for some reason, I don’t really get it. I think they look okay.) It’s really hard to go wrong with Vans Era or Converse Chuck sneakers. I have a bunch of pairs of Vans and they always look good with denim. However, the absolute best have to be my Flat Head sneakers, they look like Chucks but have far superior quality and construction, distinctive white stitching, black leather instead of canvas, red diamond inlays… most importantly, they are extremely comfortable, way more than chucks. I’m definitely going to be buying more pairs of those.

    • SaladHead

I find $400 for a pair of plimsolls a bit steep.
I do, however, agree with you that Chucks are incredibly uncomfortable, but that’s why PF Flyers exist.

Yeah, there’s no doubt that TFH sneakers are expensive, but it’s more because of the exchange rate than anything else. I live in Japan and these sneakers cost 40-45% less here. Hopefully the yen’s value will continue to stay down so this stuff doesn’t cost so much for people outside of Japan.

Converse All Star hi is my choice.

  • BrownTrousers

Stick a pin in a 1970s adidas catalogue. Those trainers will look good.

    • Hunch

Grand Slams, Grand Prix, Forest Hills… I can go on and on…

  • Hunch

“Off Legacy”, Really? Did they pay for that spot? You’re better off with a pair of Air Force 1’s… No Jack Purcell’s on this list? Really? 574’s and 1300’s are more worn than the 996. I guess this is just your personal preference.

Honestly, to each his own, but I would NEVER wear a pair of Roshe kicks with denim. And I don’t even need to explain why, that picture above says it all…

This article really makes no sense at all.. I choose my shoes 😉 and these all look quite bad.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dont.Trust.Any1 Paxton Porter

No Supras? The skytops look bad ass with raw denim

My selvedge denim bleeds on white sneakers. Why would one wear it with white sneakers? Did anyone encounter with the same problem or my pair of jeans just suck?

    • Richalicious

Hey buddy….. me too ! my unbranded’s bleed like a m*ther f*cker on all my trainers… just stick them in the wash inside a knotted pillow case and they’ll come out as good as new (the trainers that is !! not your jeans !) :)

    • Sam Hill

I…I like it when my jeans bleed onto my shoes.

  • Barbosa

converse ,vans and Pointer thats what i use , when im not in boots

  • shimikani

    first picture not 996s

  • http://twitter.com/ThunderGun101 ThunderGun

How do you get denim stains off your shoes? My jeans are ruining all my shoes.

    • Richalicious

put them inside a knotted pillow case and stick them in the wash on a low rev cycle and hey presto new shoes :) don’t dry them out too quickly on a hot radiator….. they’ll shrink or worse the glue will melt and you’ll be f*cked !!

  • Jon

    No visvim? Alright then…

    • Wazzifer

Converse Hi tops for this guy.

  • Ty

Adidas copa indoors for me! Super tough and they look great with cuffed denim.

  • Quincy

    Wait….Why aren’t air max 1’s among the top 5?

  • Trevor Hsu

The Hundreds Johnson Mids in Selvedge Denim, Nike Selvedge Denim Blazers.

-I happen to own a pair of the Hundreds in Selvedge Denim. Actually they kind of blend in when worn with denim. They look better with khakis but I just thought I had to mention them since they’re raw denim shoes and where on a raw denim website

  • Greg Wirtz

sneakers and good jeans don’t mix imo.

  • dudeman

I always wear my gap 1969’s with a pair of vans authentic or vans OTW line.

  • wullie miller

what no adidas city series/gazelles/spezials/trimm star etc…surely low profile suede classics like these are welcome in anybodies feet. especialy when you have cons and vans there, what is this all about. tells me the author is either vey young or clueless. i’m going for both
