Fair warning, if the heading of this article caught your fancy, you may want to click through to the Tenue de Nimes webshop straight away, because this collaboration was limited to just 10 pieces. Since Tenue de Nimes began with their series of collaborative jeans with some of the world’s best brands, Momotaro was always one of the brands they were looking to work with.

Last winter, the two dug through the archives in Kojima, Okayama to unearth this dead-stock, synthetic indigo 13 Oz. cotton denim which had been hand rope-dyed. Given the white core yarns and the instability of the synthetic indigo, these are going to be one of the quickest fading jeans on the market.

This jean is truly the collaboration of two industry maestros, and given the limited availability will likely to be very difficult to get a hold of. The combination of the rapid potential for fades, the excellent craftsmanship and history as well as the on-point fit make this an attractive option for those who love a great pair of raw denim.

The jean is cut in a slim fit with a straight leg and medium rise, and features a button fly as well as an indigo-blue line selvedge. For a little extra explanation of what makes the rope-dying feature particularly attractive, we turn to the words of Tenue de Nimes co-founder Menno who had this to say:

We are therefore very pleased to share our latest collaboration, made from a dead-stock, synthetic indigo 13oz organic cotton fabric that has been rope-dyed by hand. The core of the yarn remains white which, together with the instability of the indigo, makes these jeans fade very fast. Hand-dyeing in chemical indigo is something that rarely ever happens. The main reason for this is that the masses prefer stable ‘synthetic’ dyeing, done by machines, because it gives a more consistent result.

If I don’t see a fit picture by tomorrow you’re so not gonna get some tonight!

Nice work! Given that you said you’re only 15, I assume your parents are pretty well off if you can make a purchase like that on a whim. I’m jealous because I’m twice your age and I have to convince my lady to let me make any significant purchase (these would classify as a significant purchase for us).

I have a job at a clothing store here in Edmonton, and i get paid by commission, which for me (i can sell pretty well) ends up at around 15-17 $/hour. I paid for these entirely by myself, i dont play video games, pay taxes, or take any kind of drugs. during this time, i was thinking of getting the Naked and Famous thermochromic, and rainbow weft, but then i saw these…. I’m actually sorry, i got excited and i may have sounded like i was bragging. i try and stay humble most of the time (seriously) so i apologize for that outburst. i hope you understand a little bit more about me.

I didn’t mean to make it sound like i was judgeing either. I wish i made that kinda money at 15, thats a pretty good gig you have yourself there! Enjoy those jeans.

can anybody explain to me what ‘deadstock’ means? i’m guessing it refers to an old and unused fabric that are used again for production…? :s

    • http://www.thefacingpage.com Connor

That’s right Grandier – it refers to a fabric that’s gone out of production and has been brought out of whatever archive or vault for a specific piece.

My understanding is that ‘deadstock’ is fabric or other merchandise (in this case denim) that was manufactured but not sold immediately. It tends to be stock that sits around in a warehouse or storage room for months or years before being brought back out into the light to be sold. Sounds like your guess was pretty good by my standards hah.

nice marketing to promote low quality stuff…
frankly the fabric looks cheap..cotton/ polyester blending only.
