Levi’s Green Initiative – 8 Bottles. 1 Jean. The Waste Less Video

What can you do with 8 plastic bottles? And what does this have to do with denim? Well, Levi’s are happy to let you know that they’ve sorted out a way to turn bottles into jeans – 8 bottles to be precise. Now, 8 plastic water bottles make up a minimum of 20% of each new Levi’s Waste<Less jeans.

Over the next few years, they’ll be expanding this initiative to produce products which should reduce some of the company’s impact on our earth. During Spring of 2013 alone, they’ll be reusing over 3.5 million recycled plastic bottles, not a bad number!

It’s good to know that when you pull on a pair of these jeans (even though they’re not raw, at least not yet) that you’re doing the environment some good. Given today’s pressures to recycle and do your bit in helping out with conservation, picking up a new pair of jeans definitely seems a pretty good way to go about doing things.

Based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, Connor grew an interest in raw denim thanks to the process, maturation, patience and craft that goes into each individual pair. He also writes at REPOSITORY which he started alongside Rawr founder Nick Coe.

of course, no picture of fit or anything. just an idea. however it is a good idea, the problem will be in the execution. there is NEVER an excuse for a product to be worse, it doesnt matter if it saves bottles or not, if the product is not on par, i wont buy it.

I hope they can do the selvedge line using green or blue threads made of recycled plastic bottle…. now that would seriously be cool

hmm is it selvedge? i kind of doubt it, however it is it would be really cool. i hope that they do this right because this idea has a lot of potential.

The only things that are selvedge are their more higher end pairs that are raw if I remember correctly. I would have to guess they will probably be making these in 501, 514, 511 and maybe one more cut.

I agree. Their LVC collection is great, but I doubt they’d do a recycled version of it. I’m eager to see the final product.
