Edwin Overworks Factory Vintage 50’s Raw Denim
I came across this jewel at Mode D’Emploi, a veteran denim shop based in The Hague, Holland. It was the last one of the 6 pieces the shop had in stock. It’s well known that to celebrate their 50 years making denim, EDWIN, launched the Overworks Factory collection – a collection targeted for a few exclusive shops and online boutiques in Europe.
The Overworks Factory project encloses EDWIN’s top shelf products and fabrics, made with a characteristic 20th century aesthetic. The whole collection has been manufactured in Japan using artisan techniques.
This particular jean is a five pocket style, with a 1947 cut, and tapered legs; all put together with a golden cotton stitch and featuring a classic shrink to fit. The dark indigo 14oz. denim is not very slubby, but rather quite stiff and hairy. You can easily recognize from look and feel that is a very high quality fabric.
Additionally, it’s made with their signature rainbow Japanese selvedge and specifically for this collection. For those more unfamiliar with this selvedge, it’s produced using low tension and heavy raw and unsanforized denim, and from the Nihon Menpu Mill in Japan.
