Kamikaze Attack Limited Edition 20 oz. Raw Denim – Just Released

Tate + Yoko, a Canadian denim boutique with a unique focus on cult Japanese denim brands, have teamed up with Kojima-based denim cutters Kamikaze AttackTate + Yoko only carry made in Japan, Canada or U.S.A. denim, a nice trend that I wish more denim retailers would pick up. The focus on quality over cost-cutting is really nice to see, even if it will turn some customers away from time to time.

Kamikaze Attack are a very small cult brand based in the Japanese city of Kojima. Their owner, Kanazawa-san, decided to create his own denim label after working in a tattoo shop which branched into selling jeans. He was consistently unimpressed by the calibre of denim stocked, so with the motto “Project to conquer the world” in the back of his mind, he started out to produce denim he could be proud of.

Project to Conquer the World

These limited edition jeans, made exclusively for Tate + Yoko, are one of the heavier offerings in Kamikaze Attack’s arsenal. A limited run of 24 pairs is all that were produced, so you’re going to want to act fast if these strike a chord with you. They’re cut from the Kamikaze Attack low rise, slim-straight pattern from a Japanese-made slubby sanforized 20 oz. selvedge denim that is such a deep indigo that it looks almost black.

Stitching is tonal, so the thread really doesn’t stand out, increasing the darkness of the jeans. As with all Kamikaze Attack jeans, these are sewn using vintage machinery in Kojima. The pocket bags are an interesting detail, printed with a combination of beetles and skulls. If you’re a fan of beetles or skulls, you definitely shouldn’t sleep on these jeans because crazy details like that don’t come around often.

I picked up a pair of these on the weekend and so far I’m really loving them! The slubby denim looks good and they fit really well.
