Ooe Yofukuten X The Bandanna Almanac – The “Albuquerque” Project

Editors Note: This is the first post by Jonathan of The Bandanna Almanac, one of our newest contributors at Rawr Denim. Jonathan recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Japanese denim-makers Ooe Yofukuten on a custom project. Today, we’re excited to be sharing this special pair of jeans exclusively with Rawr Denim readers. For more information on the denim, please view the post on his site.

**Update** – The Albuquerque Jeans are now available on Jonathan’s website.

A pair of jeans is something you have to live with for a long time; an investment. There is a plethora of different denim to choose from.

Sometimes the beauty of the denim is found in the simplicity of the dye and skill of the dyer. Other times the beauty is evident in the quality of the weave, and the skill of the craftsman who made it. The denim used in this project is a great example of latter.

The “nep” threads create the white dots visible in the denim, which brings out a stunning texture. This effect is difficult to create and requires great skill on a loom. The broken twill adds a slubby effect which, combined with the nep threads, sets this denim apart from the norm.

For me, the investment is time since I like to add personal touches when possible. With this project I had a concept that I conceived this past winter. I wanted to incorporate my love of vintage details, bandannas, and paisley. The result includes a combination of vintage Elephant Brand bandannas, a 1930′s donut button, a lucky center belt-loop, and my hand-drawn leather patch.
