Hong Kong’s Take5: The Ultimate Japanese Denim Destination

Take 5 Denim Shop - Hong Kong

Take 5 Denim Shop - Hong Kong

We had previously spoke of Hong Kong-based Workware Heritage Clothing and the amazing selection of vintage menswear they have. While they are successful in their own right, if you are still on the hunt for another gem in Hong Kong, look no further than Take5. Over a decade old, the store has become one of the most well known denim purveyors in Asia and the world.

Take5 was started by Benny Seki in 2000 when he had a vision to share and spread his passion for American Vintage culture. However, as Japanese companies became the clear leaders for American vintage denim (repros), it only made sense for him to fulfil his mission by means of Japanese denim.

Thus, on 8th January 2000, Seki and his partners opened Take5‘s doors in the dense, coastal city. They began by being the sole distribution agent for four famous Japanese denim labels – Evisu, Dry Bones, Gardener and Stormy Blue - and now offer other wildly celebrated brands, such as Samurai JeansMomotaro JeansIron Heart Jeans, and The Flat Head.

Sensing opportunities outside of their homebase, Take5 expanded their reach beyond Hong Kong to operations in three other Asian countries – Thailand, Taiwan, and China. Their selection is also now comprised of other complementary items such as leather goods, silverware, and a plethora of independent magazines.

I’ve visited the Take5 store in Shanghai China.  It’s a nice store but it’s in a really awkward location (next to a Elementary school).

Just visited the Bangkok store, beautiful selection of everything a denim geek dreams of! Quite difficult to find but well worth it

I bought my sda-103 there last time I came to HK. The Chinese one in SH is smaller but in both  shops the staff is really nice and helpful.
I’ll have to disagree with the location of the shop in SH, it’s in Julu Lu where you can find a lot of cool clothes stores. It would have been better in ChangDe Lu but it’s not far from JingAn Temple or ShanXi Nan Lu stations. Just stop by and say hi to Mars, he’s a nice dude.
