If you’ve heard one thing about Canadian denim label Naked & Famous, it’s probably that they have a flair for the unorthodox. It’s to be expected when you market things like glow-in-the-dark denim, pomegranate-dyed jeans, and other insane (albeit awesome) products.

Most recently the guys at N&F have outdone not only themselves, but the entire denim industry. Naked & Famous have succeeded in creating jeans using the heaviest denim in the world, at a mind-blowing 32 ounces-per-sq. yard. To put that into perspective, the denim of an average pair of raw jeans sits around 14 ounces-per-sq. yard.

In case you’re asking yourself “Why on Earth would anyone do such a thing?”, N&F’s founder Brandon Svarc likens it to climbing Mount Everest:

People [climb Everest] so they can say they conquered the tallest mountain in the world. I find that human beings are fascinated by anything that is a superlative. Well, these jeans are my denim superlative.

Over the past 2 years Naked & Famous have worked closely with their Japanese denim producers in order to make this superlative possible. The sewing posed one of the biggest challenges, since in some places the seams are almost an inch thick. All things considered, the fact that they were able to complete their limited run of 138 pairs is impressive.

Needless to say, this incredible feat might not happen again so if you’re interested in owning one of these marvels of denim engineering, act fast!
